Jake and his family moved back to the UK and had a fantastic going away party for the kids at Somersfield this past weekend. There were two bouncy castles, lots of chips and dips, a coffee station for the parents and a special performance by the Gombeys near the end, what a treat! The boys were not too keen on the loud drums (and perhaps the masks as well for Jasper) during the Gombey performance, and preferred to stand near the back of the crowd but had a great time nonetheless.
It is a bit sad because I don't think Sam fully grasps the concept of a friend moving away. Unfortunately it is part of life when you live on an island full of ex-pats. Before we went to the party, Sammy asked me if it was for Jake's birthday and I tried to explain that he and his family were moving away. After the party, Sammy said, "Mommy, we forgot to have cake for Jake's birthday." I think he is really going to miss his buddy.
