There were two reasons why I held off on Jasper's first haircut. One: I did not want him to lose his blond little curls. Two: When he makes a fuss, he really makes a fuss so if we were in the middle of a haircut and he started complaining, we might have had to leave with half a haircut.
Well, surprise, surprise, Jasper was awesome at his first haircut!! We went to my hairdresser, Ellen, and got both boys a haircut. I was armed with snacks, drinks, toys and even asked Daddy to come for support, but I think the key move was to have Jasper watch Sam get his haircut first. Sam was actually a bit sad and reluctant at first because Ellen had used the buzzer last time and he really did not want it again. Once it was cleared up and Ellen convinced him that she was not going to use the buzzer, his cut went smoothly and it did not jeopardize Jasper's opinion of getting his haircut.
Jasper sat down, had no problems having the cape put on and just watched as Ellen cut his hair. I did not even have to bring out the lollipops until the end. Sam has always been great at getting haircuts and now it is a relief to know that Jasper is too. Great job boys!!
I think the best part is that Jasp did not totally lose his baby look. I remember after Sam's first haircut, he transformed into a big boy look but with his curls, Jasp has that surfer cool dude look still going for him. He still points to his head once in awhile and says, "Haircut, haircut", so proud of himself.
