Sam's class has been studying about birds so his teachers organized a field trip to Spittal Pond and invited Mommies and Daddies to join if they could. Since it is 2 minutes from our house, Jasper and I decided to tag along and "help" with the bird watching.
It was really cute to see Sam interacting with his classmates. His partner was CeCe and they were pretty good at staying together and holding hands whenever necessary. Jackson is a super sweet half-day kid and his quiet demeanor reminds me a lot of Sam when he was a half-day last year. Jackson had a little backpack that held his binoculars and a book about birds which he took out to show to Jaspy. Jasp was thrilled a big kid was paying him attention and looked at the book for quite awhile with Jackson.

At one point, after seeing a cardinal and smelling the popular leaf (I can't remember the name but it smells really nice!) that grows around Bermuda, the path we were on was winding out closer to the ocean. The ocean was not even in sight yet but Jasp heard the waves crashing and started saying, "Water! Water!" I was so impressed with his hearing and being able to recognize the sound from so far away that I did not notice that he was actually fearful of the approaching water. Tears came and finally subsided when we passed the ocean part. (Bad Mommy was torturing Jasp when I stopped to take a picture of Sam and his buddy Jake who is sadly moving off the island next month)

As much as the kids enjoyed seeing the birds, (we saw a cardinal, a heron and a few kiskadees) the cows nearby were the big highlight. After the class left, Jasper and I went back to visit the cows and unfortunately caught one of them doing his poops. Of course, now if you ask Jasper about his trip to Spittal Pond, he will say, "Cows! Poo Poo! Ewww!"
Oddly enough, the last (and only) time I went to Spittal Pond was when Sam was 17 months old. Sam had not been walking for very long but we went with some friends for the fresh air and I had to carry him most of the way...like I did with Jasper on this trip! Good exercise for Mommy!
