(This is more of what does Jasper say and do but the picture goes better with said title)
Jasp is definitely more of a chatterbox than Sammy was at this age, or ever, so I thought his little sayings and doings would be noteworthy of a post. Or just so Mommy doesn't forget these funny little quirks of her silly boy.
1) In the past, Will has jokingly asked the boys to call him Master when they play. The other night I overheard Jasp say, "Aye! Aye! Master" when Gung Gung asked him to hop into the bath.
2) He told me that he was ruining Sam's beauty sleep because he was talking to Sam while he was trying to sleep. We are still phasing out Jasper's naps. He needs them every few days or else he gets the nightmares at night but it takes so long for him to fall asleep when he does nap...a conundrum for sure. I do have to say he is the most "morning person" of all our family. He always greets me with a sweet cheerful "Good Morning Mommy!" while wiping the sleep away from his eyes.
3) No matter the weather, he loves having the windows open in the car. On our way to pick up Sam, he exclaims, "I love the wind!" I said, "Do you?" and he said, "The fresh air sure is nice"
4) In efforts to have dinners finished, I have tried to explain to the boys the nutrients and the benefit of eating those nutrients like, you should finish your hamburger because beef is good protein for your muscles. Jasper now tells me when he wants to eat something, it is because it is good for his arm, or leg, or finger, any random body part! I have also explained that fruits and veggies are good for his poo poos and now when he has a big pee, he tells me it is because he ate a lot of melon (or any other kind of food)
5) When the kids eat something different from what Mommy and Daddy are eating but Jasper likes what Mommy and Daddy are eating too, he says, "Don't eat it all, okay?" (he wants us to save some for him) or he says, "Just one bite??" (meaning more than one bite of course!)
6) While "Pardon me?" has been ingrained in Sammy's vocab, Jasp has not grasped this expression yet. No matter how many times we correct him, he cannot rid himself of "What d'you say?" (but it does sound cute coming from him) In line with trying to teach him manners, when he asks for something without a please, we will repeat the question hoping he will add a please at the end but sometimes he just repeats the question in a louder voice or accentuates what he wants as if we didn't hear him the first time. Will and I cannot help but give each other a "can you believe this kid?" look when he does this.
7) One of Jasper's favourite lunches are melted cheese and turkey in Johnny bread. When he requests this he lists out the turkey as "churkey" and always lets me know it is his favourite. (Stroganoff mum mum is tied for first too I think)
8) Bubble Guppies is one of his favourite dvds right now. Jasp has a knack for memorizing lines from shows and it is quite humorous to hear him answering the questions of the show or talking along with the characters. He has also learned from a Mickey Mouse app on the iPad "Oh boy, oh boy!" and "Two Cue" (I actually don't know what two cue is, but that is what it sounds like)
9) I think because Sammy is spelling and doing math, it has piqued Jasper's interest in letters and numbers as well. Though he has only mastered verbally spelling his name and writing out the letter J, he asks everyday how to write out the other letters. And just recently he has been asking addition questions and knows 1+1 so far!
10) To Sammy's dismay, Jasper turns the volume way down on the tv when he feels a bit scared by some cartoon shows he is not familiar with. Once he has seen the show, it becomes no problem as a repeat show. But it is also weird to note that one of his favourite movies is Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith (or as he calls up, "the one where Anakin burns up") It is a mystery to Mommy how this non-cartoon has captured the attention of a 3 year old and not be scary for him.
11) He loves watching Sam play Mario Galaxy and seems just as excited about it as if he is playing himself. He always asks Sammy to get him stars or to go to the Koopa level for him. Sometimes he will grab the non-active controller and "help" Sam. For the most part, the boys get along playing but when one gets mad at the other I think it is cute to hear "I am not going to be your best friend anymore", mostly from Jasper who learned it from Sam! I know it does not last long as Jasper adores Sam wants to do everything his big brother does.
12) When Jasper comes to Mommy and Daddy's bed in the (very early) morning, you can always hear him sprinting down the hallway. (Whereas Sam is silent as a mouse) He mostly falls back asleep but if it is light enough outside, he will toss and turn until he hears Sammy going down the stairs and joins his brother. Mommy tries in vain to get a few more zzzz's beside the wriggly worm but when he sings/whispers Old MacDonald, it can be tough to fall back asleep. Another thing I was surprised by just yesterday was that he knows (mostly) how to sing Twinkle Twinkle Little Star and Itsy Bitsy Spider. Now I know what they are doing in music class!
*One morning last week, he tossed and turned until the sun came up. I heard him get out of bed and saw him scoot under our drapes to watch the sun rise. It was a sweet sight for Mommy.
13) Jasper has a bad habit of ignoring questions he does not want to answer. It is as if you are speaking to a wall. But I know that he is listening because I will on purpose ask him something else he is interested in and get an answer right away. This also applies to when I ask him to clean up his toys. He is all of a sudden "too tired", but never too tired to volunteer to clean up when it is time for bed! He will come downstairs and say, "Who made this mess?? Jasper! I better clean up!" What a brat!
14) He loves riding his bike (and Sammy's) around the house and we are constantly asking him to slow down so that he does not wipe out. He always asks if his speed is right, which is always still too fast!
15) Since we had warm weather over mid-term break, Jasp wore some shorts again and is struggling a bit getting back into pants. He always pulls up his pant legs because his pants are "too big" (meaning they are too long...meaning he wants to be wearing shorts!) He also still prefers to wear button-up shirts (with the sleeves rolled up) over tees but I can convince him to wear a tee if it has Jake and the Neverland Pirates on it, which is once a week for gym. And as soon as we pick him up from school, the socks have to come off right away. Thank goodness we have a had a warm winter to accommodate this kid who loves his summer wardrobe!
I was trying to cap off this post at 15 points but when Daddy came home, he reminded me of a few more Jasperisms that I thought I should add and make it an even 20:
16) Jasper can be a pretty cuddly kid when he is in the mood. As Mommy and her big belly has passed her bedtime duties temporarily over to Daddy and Gung Gung, the boys give Mommy their love before they head upstairs. Jasper insists on a big bear hug and a "I love you" to accompany his kisses. Even when Daddy goes out for his runs, he needs to give him a kiss before departing. (Coming back from the run is a different story...a few times he has asked Daddy to go for a shower before playing together! ha ha)
17) Lately, Jasper has been asking everything to be confirmed. Almost every time he asks a question, it is followed by a "Right?" or an "Okay?" and he will not let go unless you answer him. Example: "Daddy is at work making money for Jasper, right? Right? Right?"
19) Although he can be a treat monster, the other day, Gung Gung offered Japper an extra treat but he declined and explained, "I already had one Gung Gung". Both Gung Gung and Mommy were surprised!
20) We playfully spank the kids on the bum around the house, especially Jasper's chunky bum! But Jasp has been spanking back lately and his big mitts sure can pack a wallop! As seen in these couple of pics from one of the boys' nightly "lightsaber training" sessions, Daddy sometimes underestimates Jasp's power and his fingers suffer for it:
