Gung Hay Fat Choy to everyone and welcome to the year of the dragon.
Since Sammy's school really promotes multiculturalism, I thought it would be neat to go to his class and talk about Chinese New Year. I read a couple of books that describes the holiday and gave all the kiddies a little treat, including a "lai-cee", which is a red envelope with lucky money in it (though I put lucky chocolate money instead of real money) and a "chinese fan", which Sam ended up calling a "flapper".
The boys were super excited to receive their lai-cees that Kau-Gung sent from China. Jasper put his Chinese money into the toy cash register the first opportunity he got. Actually, Kau-Gung is a dragon, he is the big 6-0 this year!
As per tradition, we wore red for good luck but Jasper got away with wearing the navy chinese outfit that Po Po got for Sam when he was about the same age. The funny hat that came with the outfit had a long braid attached at the back and it was WAY too small for these big-headed McCallum kids.
