Trick or Treat

Ever since Sammy saw his classmate Neil's awesome Transformers Optimus Prime (or as Sam likes to simply call it, "robot")  costume at the previously mentioned superhero party, he knew that it was what he wanted to be for Halloween.  Mommy had planned for Jasp to wear Sammy's Toucan Sam costume but ended up getting each of them a robot costume since little one likes to copy big one so much.  I am so glad I "splurged" because Jasper loved his costume just as much as Sam loved his and they both looked so darn adorable.  (Of course I still had to "test" out Jasp as a toucan)

Daddy had a business trip in Miami right before Halloween so he brought the costumes home and the boys tested them out right away.  Daddy even had his own mask to play with.  Except for sleeping and going to school, Sam had to have the costume on all the time.

Since the robot costume had a chest plate and an "arm gun" (another Sammy term), I persuaded Sam into dressing up in his more potty-friendly Captain America costume for school.  I almost didn't want to dress him up bccause the CA costume is a one-piece suit but Daddy insisted on it because he didn't want his little guy to be the only one not dressed up at school.  Well, surprisingly, Sammy was one of the few kids who was dressed up!  He didn't care though, he was elated to be wearing his awesome costume to school and probably would everyday if he could.

One day after school Mommy and Sam bought one baby pumpkin and we decorated it with markers.  A few days later, Sammy insisted that the pumpkin needed a baby sister so we brought Gung Gung and Jasper to the grocery store to pick up another one.  Sam was so cute with the pumpkins and treated them like little babies.  He brought them out on the porch with him while having a snack, had them on the couch while he watched tv, played hide and seek (Gung Gung and Sam took turns hiding the pumpkins while the other found them) and even took them to bed with him.

This was Sammy's second year of trick or treating.  We were back home in St.Albert last year and Sammy had fun going around in his shark costume saying "trick or treat" and collecting candy (which he didn't eat).  This year, the Taylors organized a little group of friends to go trick or treating around their neighbourhood.  Bermudian neighbourhoods can be pretty spread out but this was close enough so the kids made it "around the block" no problem.  It started to rain near the end but the kids didn't mind because they are still at the age where they don't care how much they get, they just want to get back and check out what they got.

As we were walking around, I was was telling Will about how Jasper is starting to really point for things that he wants. The night before Halloween, I got up to nurse him but when I picked him up from the crib, he pointed towards the hallway. I was wondering what he wanted so I went into the hallway. He then pointed at the stairs because he wanted to go downstairs. I said, "No Jasper, we are not going downstairs." Then he pointed back at the rocking chair in his room so I fed him and put him back to sleep. Just after this story, Will had the same kind of pointing experience. He was carrying Jasper around for trick or treating but not going up to the doors to get treats. Jasp figured out quickly that he was missing out so he pointed to the doors and insisted on being brought to the door. At the door, he then pointed at the bowls the homeowners had in their hands while dishing out the candy. I guess that is the baby way of trick or treating!

The Cundliffes had their annual Halloween party (started when the kiddies were just born!) a week after Halloween because of scheduling conflicts this year.  Not sure because we were experiencing a bit of cooler weather that day or Sammy just didn't feel robot-ish, but cozy dragon costume got some face time at the party.  Iris took an amazing (and rare) picture of our family.

Here is Sammy in his first Halloween costume.  Po Po had the brilliant idea of getting our little premie a costume from the Build-a-Bear store.  Jasper however, was already over 7 lbs when he was born so he could not wait until October to pose in this costume so he modelled it soon after he was born.

On Sammy's 3rd Halloween, we were actually in transit on the way home to Bermuda from Alberta on the 31st, so we didn't officially have a costume.  However, we did test out our friend Hailey's costume during our visit so we have a picture for posterity's sake.
